A parent’s guide for a successful swim season
- DO make sure your child is at practice each week (2 times per week for mini-team, 3 times per week for older swimmers).
- DO make sure your child is on time for practice and has everything they need.
- DO remind your child to be respectful of other swimmers both on their team and the opposing team during practice and meets.
- DON’T wait on the pool deck for your child during practice. The viewing area on the second floor offers a great view of practice.
- DO talk to your child’s coach if you have any questions or concerns.
- DO e-mail your swimmer/diver’s coach by the Wednesday before a meet if your child will not be attending a swim meet. Illness is an exception, of course. Our coaches spend a lot of time preparing line-ups, and last minute calls and special requests make their job more difficult.
- DO make sure your child is at swim meets in time for warm-ups.
- DO make sure that if you are scheduled to work a meet and have a conflict, that you first try to switch with someone else before you contact the meet director.
- DO arrive early at the meet if you are scheduled to work and check in with the meet director.
- DON’T hang out on the pool deck during the meet unless you are scheduled to work. The deck parents will make sure your child is in line for their scheduled events.
- DO encourage your child to stay on the pool deck with the team so that deck parents can find them.
- DO enjoy watching your child compete, but don’t forget to cheer for his/her teammates too!
- DON’T forget that swimming is a TEAM SPORT. Swimmers should remain at the meet cheering on their teammates until the final cheer!
- DO enjoy watching your child grow and learn to become a skilled swimmer and a member of a great swim club!
